Propulsion must enjoy priority in aerospace engineering. As the main construction unit of Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering, a secondary discipline of Aeronautical and Astronautical Science and Technology, the Institute of Propulsion and Power Technology aims at fundamentals and frontiers, and undertakes national major scientific projects. Their research fields include propulsion system, combustion and aerodynamics, engine structure, engine control, and new concept propulsion, in addition to other areas. The Institute has been continuously expanding cooperation and exchange, and maintains good interactions with domestic institutes. The institute devotes itself to the promotion of student training by the exchange activities of teachers and students with top international universities and institutions.
The main research areas include:
(1) Spray combustion and propulsion
(2) Fuels and combustion chemical kinetics
(3) Propulsion system, engine and control
(4) Structural integrity and safety of hot-end components
(5) New concept propulsion
